MSC reported that the container ship Maersk Eindhoven, deployed in the Pearl service, suffered, a technical failure on February 18 due to bad weather during the route from Xiamen, China, to Los Angeles, USA. As a result, the 13,100-TEU vessel lost hundreds of containers at sea.
The accident happened near Japan. The crew is reported to be safe and propulsion has been restored. Maersk is currently evaluating the nearest suitable port options in Asia to dock the ship.
It is the sixth reported container-loss incident at sea since November 30. In January, about 750 containers fell from the “Maersk Essen”, a twin of the “Maersk Eindhoven”, in an accident also on the Xiamen line to Los Angeles.
