Maritime community warns of crews trapped on the high seas

On the 25th, the maritime community will promote the “Ships sound their horns’, manifestation. The initiative aims to alert the world to the chaotic situation experienced by the crew, who in many cases are unable to disembark due to the pandemic, becoming trapped in the high seas. Information from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) shows that in March this year there were still about 200,000 crew workers unable to be repatriated.
Another factor that draws attention and has caused concern in the maritime community is the number of abandoned vessels. According to the International Labor Organization, there are more than 250 cases of this type around the world – in 2020 alone there were 85 new vessels abandoned, double the number of the previous year.
