As weaker pork protein prices hit import demand, China imported 743,000 tons of beef in June, down 17% from the same month last year, according to customs data released on July 13.
Foreign purchases of meat in June were also down by 5.8% compared to 789,000 tons in May.
However, meat imports in the first half of the year totaled 5.08 million tons, according to information from the General Administration of Customs of China, above the 4.75 million tons registered in the first six months of 2020.
