Brazil exported 31,500 tons of fresh honey in the first half of the year, 55% more than in the same period last year, according to a report by DERAL (the department of rural economy), an agency of the Paraná department of agriculture, prepared based on data from the ministry of agriculture. Revenue from exports almost tripled, reaching US$ 107.6 million.
The state of Piauí led Brazilian exports between January and June, with revenues of US$ 34 million and shipments totaling 9,500 tons. Santa Catarina (US$ 25.4 million and 7500 tons) and Paraná (US$ 21.6 million and 6600 tons) were in second and third place in the ranking of foreign sales, respectively. The United States continues to be the main buyer of fresh honey from Brazil. In the first half, 78% of Brazilian honey exports went to the North American market.
