Wood is again shipped directly from the ship’s hold at the Port of Paranaguá

Operators at the Port of Paranaguá returned to shipping wood outside of containers this semester. The shipping modality, called break bulk, in which the cargo is placed directly in the ship’s hold, is being resumed after at least eight years.

The most recent shipment was carried out by TCP on July 22nd. In berth 215, the port operating company loaded almost 1,380 tons of wood directly into the hold of the ship Hosanger. The product was shipped to the United States.

“The lack of containers throughout the world makes the market look for other solutions”, says the operations director of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Teixeira da Silva Júnior, about the motivation for this resumed service.

According to the records of the Directorate of Operations of Portos do Paraná, the last shipment of the product for export on general cargo ships was registered in 2013.

The Port of Paranaguá is the third in the country to export the product. This year, in the first seven months, 531,743 tons were exported. All this shipped wood generated revenue of US$391,674,000.
