Bilateral negotiations with other countries have expanded the range of new markets for Brazilian agricultural products. The agreements negotiated by MAPA (the ministry of agriculture, livestock, and food supply) take into account health parameters and have resulted in 150 markets opened up in 43 countries since January 2019.
The most recent opening, this August, was for Brazilian fish to Mexico. Last month, four new access possibilities were formalized: buffalo semen for Turkey, melon seeds for Nicaragua, Arabica coffee for Ecuador, and coconut seeds for Costa Rica.
Of the total of 150 new markets, 74 are in the Americas, 57 in Asia, 18 in Africa, and one in Oceania.
2021 Exports
From January to June 2021, Brazilian agribusiness exports totaled US$ 61.49 billion, which represented a growth of 20.8% compared to exports in the same period in 2020. This is a record amount for the first half of the year in terms of sector exports since the highest value ever recorded for the period so far had been in 2020 (US$50.90 billion).
Agribusiness represented 45.3% of total Brazilian exports in the first half of 2021.
Agribusiness imports reached US$ 7.50 billion in the semester, 20.2% above the US$ 6.24 billion registered in the same period of the previous year. The trade balance in the sector was US$ 53.99 billion, which offset the deficit of US$ 17.26 billion in other sectors.
