The cocoa processing industries have requested for import taxes to be waived on the first 86,000 tons of almonds.  It will depend on the Camex (Foreign Trade Chamber) as to whether or not it agrees with the refusal this request by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply.

The chamber responsible for this sector reported that based on the balance of production, consumption, exports and imports, including data from the Cocoa Processing Industry Association (Aipc), there is a surplus of 100,000 tonnes in the domestic market.  Hence, there would be no reason to bring in more African cocoa and that too with a loss of federal tax collection.
