Fifteen articulated buoys measuring between 27-30 meters are at the Port of São Francisco do Sul, waiting to be installed at the port´s access channel. The bases of them will be fixed to the bottom of the sea, using a 12-ton weight and their rods will be visible at a height of 9 meters above the water level, thus improving visibility. Currently, buoys only appear 2.5 meters above the water.
The light emitted by the new equipment will reach approximately 10 nautical miles, equivalent to 18 kilometers. Currently the light reaches about 3 nautical miles.
The project was approved by the Brazilian Navy’s Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation and should be completed by the end of the year.
