SC earns more than $2 billion with chicken and pork exports

The State of Santa Catarina has already earned more than US$ 2 billion this year with chicken and pork exports carried out between January and August. During the period, the shipped volume rose 3.9%, while revenue grew 10.3% compared to the same months last year. The information is from the Ministry of Finance, compiled by the Center for Socioeconomics and Agricultural Planning (Epagri/Cepa).

In relation to chicken meat, exports totaled 661,500 tons by August, an increase of 0.7% compared to the same period in 2020. Invoicing, on the other hand, rose 11.8%, to US$ 1.1 billion. According to the organization, Santa Catarina is responsible for 24% of the total exported and sells mainly to Japan, China, and Saudi Arabia.

According to Alexandre Giehl, an analyst at Epagri/Cepa, chicken meat continues to be in strong demand in the domestic market, due to better competitiveness against competing proteins.

As for pork, between January and August, the state exported more than 380,000 tons and sales reached US$ 945.8 million, an increase of 24.7%. Highlights among destinations are China, Chile, and Hong Kong.
