ABIMÓVEL: YTD Furniture and mattresses exports up 62.7%
Sep, 28, 2021 Posted by Ruth HollardWeek 202138
In August 2021, Brazil exported more than US$ 75 million (FOB) in finished furniture and mattresses. This result represents an increase of +30.3% when compared to August 2020. When analyzing the variation in the YTD results until the eighth month of this year in relation to the same period last year, however, an even greater evolution is observed: +62.7% on the exported amount.
Despite being below the YTD results of July (+72.1%), the variations between 2021 and 2020 are starting to balance out on realistic comparative bases, without the influence of the more severe restrictions imposed in the first half of last year, which, among other factors, negatively impacted this year’s results. In any case, the observed numbers indisputably demonstrate consistent strength in the sector’s exports. This indicates that Brazilian furniture and mattresses are gaining more space around the world, with an increase of +48.2% in the last 12 months.
The situation has been documented in the “Monitoring of Furniture and Mattress Exports”, a monthly report developed by IEMI – Market Intelligence for ABIMÓVEL (the Brazilian furniture industry association) and APEX-BRASIL (the Brazilian export and investment promotion agency), based on official Brazilian trade balance data compiled by the Federal Revenue Service and the Ministry of Finance. The study follows the furniture trade in its four main product lines: upholstery, wood, metals, and mattresses.
