Argentina reduces restrictions on beef exports

Argentina announced the flexibilization of meat exports as of Monday, 4, and preferential credit interest rates for producers as of this Wednesday, Sept. 29th through a Central Bank resolution. The announcement was made after the meeting of the new minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Julián Domínguez, with the Articulation Council.

The measure will allow the country to export to China cows that are no longer able to reproduce and that are generally not consumed in the local market. Shipments in this category (E and D) were restricted to 50% of what was exported last year. According to projections, around 780,000 tons of beef would be exported, therefore, 85% of foreign sales would be concluded if the data were compared to 2020, a record year for exports.

Domínguez, who took office recently, said that “to say that exports are closed is to harm producers and benefit part of the chain.”

Although the announcement was well received by the SRA (the Argentine rural society), the CRA (the Argentine rural confederation), the FAA (the Argentine agricultural federation), and CONINAGRO (the limited agricultural inter cooperative confederation), the entities had expected a full opening of exports.
