MAPA (the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Supplies), has clarified that no new guidance was issued to slaughterhouses regarding a suspension in the production of beef for China.

In a statement, the ministry states that what has been defined is that the certification of beef and beef products destined for the Asian country has been suspended since September 4th.

See below a history of Brazilian exports of beef and pork to China since 2019. Data are from DataLiner:

On that date, the flow was voluntarily stopped by Brazil, because of the atypical cases of “mad cow disease”. According to the ministry, a circular letter sent to the heads of Animal Products Inspection services may have been interpreted differently.

The document authorizes the 60-day storage of products that would go to China and was produced before September 4th.
