Russia resumes beef and pork imports from 12 Brazilian slaughterhouses

Russia’s commercial representative in Brazil has informed Valor that Russia will resume purchases of meat from 12 Brazilian slaughterhouses: 3 beef plants and 9 pork plants. The units were temporarily restricted from exporting to the Russian market since the end of 2017 due to the presence of the additive ractopamine in some cargoes.
The Russian Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Service (Rosselkhoznadzor) has announced that the products will be accepted again beginning on November 25th. The decision was taken after negotiations carried out last week between the head of Rosselkhoznadzor, Sergey Dankvert, and the Minister of Agriculture, Tereza Cristina, in Moscow.
According to the Russian government, the resumption took into account the work carried out by the Brazilian ministry to comply with Moscow’s requirements and the guarantees that were presented by Brasília. Rosselkhoznadzor also informed that it “continues to seek opportunities to expand the list of Brazilian slaughterhouses authorized to export beef to Russia.
