WTO authorizes China to apply retaliation tariffs against the U.S.
Jan, 27, 2022The World Trade Organization (WTO) concluded on the 26th that China may impose US$ 645.121 million in retaliatory tariffs on US products in a case over subsidies that has dragged on for more than a decade.
Between 2008 and 2012, the United States imposed a series of tariffs on Chinese imports, raising Beijing’s concerns
At the time, the administration of then-President Barack Obama justified the fees by claiming that China had granted subsidies to certain industries, such as solar panels and steel cables.
However, the WTO’s appeals body ruled that the arguments were insufficient and that the Chinese government could proceed with the retaliatory tariffs.
