Paraná imported 52% of all corn purchased by Brazin in 2021 after losses caused by severe frost and drought. Rio Grande do Sul, also in the South region, accounted for 25% of all imports.

The cooperative Lar singlehandedly acquired 350 thousand tons of corn from neighboring countries, such as Paraguay and Argentina, from where the company had never imported.

“We need grains to sustain our livestock, especially pigs and chickens,” says the cooperative’s president, Irineo da Costa Rodrigues.
