Trade balance surplus rises 56.7% to US$ 2.33 billion in the year

The Brazilian trade balance reached a surplus of US$ 2.33 billion, counting data up to the third week of February, representing a 56.7 percent gain daily compared to January and February 2021. On the other hand, the trade flow (total of exports and imports) increased by 21.7 percent to US$ 68.41 billion.

Exports in 2022 already total US$ 35.37 billion, with an increase of 22.6%, while imports rose 20.8% and total US$ 33.04 billion. The data were released this Monday (21/2) by the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex) of the Ministry of Economy.

Considering February’s data alone, exports grew 23.6% and totaled US$ 15.74 billion, while imports rose 16.6% and totaled US$ 13.19 billion. Thus, in the month, the trade balance registered a surplus of US$ 2.55 billion, and the flow of trade reached US$ 28.93 billion, up 20.3%.

In the third week of February alone, exports totaled US$ 5.506 billion, while imports totaled US$ 4.669 billion, resulting in a surplus of US$ 837 million. The trade flow was US$ 10.174 billion.

Monthly exports

Exports (US$ 1.124 billion) increased by 23.6% in comparison to the daily average recorded last year until the third week of February (US$ 909.74 million), featuring growth in sales by the extractive industry (+7.3%), products from the manufacturing industry (+20.8%), and agriculture (+73.3%).

Monthly imports

The daily average for imports till the third week of February 2022 (US$ 942.13 million) was 16.6% higher than the average for February last year (US$ 807.73 million). Purchases of products from the Manufacturing Industry (+14%) and the Extractive Industry (+116.6%) climbed the most in this period. On the other hand, agriculture saw a drop in purchasing (-13.9%).
