Port of Rio Grande sees the best first two months of its history

The superintendence of Portos RS released, on the 25th, the handling figures concerning the first two months of 2022. The data consider operations carried out in the ports of Rio Grande, Pelotas, and Porto Alegre, in addition to the terminals belonging to the Rio Grande Port Complex.

The first two months of 2022 were considered the best in the history of the port of Rio Grande, with 6,233,998 tonnes of goods handled. The first two months of 2018 had been the best first two months until now, with 5,125,683 tonnes registered. As for container handling, 79,521 units, including full and empty boxes, passed through the port.

Soybeans and wheat stood out among the most handled products, increasing 395.95% and 139%, respectively, compared to last year. Another highlight was potassium chloride, which showed a positive variation of 134.59%, and rice, which saw a nearly twofold increase in terms of handling, 99.89%

The destinations of cargo exported through the Port of Rio Grande were China (19.08%), Saudi Arabia (8.53%), Indonesia (6.68%), Morocco (5.72%), Vietnam ( 4.89%), and Portugal (4.35%). Imports came from Argentina (9.60%), Lithuania (8.94%), the United States (8.53%), Germany (7.73%), Russia (6.90%), and China (6.75%).

On the other hand, the Port of Pelotas saw a movement of 208,285 tonnes, up 13.50%. The vessels that docked at the pier, located on the banks of the São Gonçalo Channel, loaded 154,155 tonnes of wood logs and another 54,130 tonnes of clinker, a material used as raw material for the manufacture of cement.

The Port of Porto Alegre reached the mark of 96,651 tonnes handled, with emphasis on fertilizers, which in the first two months of the year reached 66,880 tonnes. The list is also driven by barley, with 19,852 tonnes. Other shipments together totaled 6,240 tonnes. Wheat reached 3,679 tonnes handled.
