Dockers take the strike to the Santos City Hall

The Dockworkers Union (Sindestiva) have decided to continue their strike after a meeting at the Union headquarters yesterday to discuss the stoppage. The dockworkers’ strike, which started on March 1, is a protest to a High Labor Court (TST) decision which permits Santos container terminals to use only contracted workers.
Yesterday the dockers marched through the streets of Santos, taking their protest to the Santos City Hall to seek the mayor’s stand on the matter. The mayor, Paulo Alexandre Barbosa, offered support to Sindestiva and their aim of maintaining jobs, saying the council will mediate dialogue between São Paulo State Port Operators Union (Sopesp) and Sindestiva, in search of a solution to guarentee the development of the port while also preserving employment.
