Chile’s Office of Agricultural Studies released a bulletin on the dairy market reporting that imports between January and July 2022 decreased by 16.48% in volume and by 5% in terms of value.
This is due to the fact that, in the first seven months of 2022, 73,464 tonnes entered the Chilean market for USD 280,450,000. Meanwhile, in the same time frame of 2021, Chile imported 87,955,000 tonnes of dairy products for a total cost of USD 295,213.
The breakdown reveals that cheese is among the most imported products (33,778 tonnes), costing USD 158,788,000. The second product in the ranking was whey, totaling 8,775 tonnes for USD 26,604,000.
The remaining products imported into Chile were child food preparations for USD 18,711 (2,749 t), butter with a figure of USD 17,346 (2,994 t), skim milk powder for USD 16,940 (4,363 t), Whole Milk Powder for USD 11,592 (2,855 t), Condensed Milk for USD 5,518 (3,177 t) and Evaporated Milk for USD 2,062 (1,278 t).
In the seven-month time frame, Chile acquired products from the dairy sector from 38 countries, the main suppliers being Argentina, the United States, New Zealand, Mexico, Germany, and the Netherlands. In contrast, Chile no longer imports dairy from Greece, Latvia, and Pakistan.
