Motorcycle sales from Brazil totaled 5,786 units in September, which corresponds to an increase of 18.8% compared to the same period last year (4,872 units). On the other hand, compared to August, international sales of motorcycles dropped by 25.9% (7,807 motorcycles). From January to September, 43,670 units were exported, a volume 2.1% higher than the 42,765 units registered in the same period last year.
The data was released on the 13th, in São Paulo, by the industry association Abraciclo. The association expects the shipment of 59,000 motorcycles in 2022, a volume 10.3% higher than the 53,476 units exported in 2021.
On the other hand, motorcycle production reached 139,622 units in September, 4.3% less than the previous month, when 145,852 motorcycles were produced. However, in comparison with the same month last year, there was an increase of 28.2% (108,948 units). This was the best performance for the month since 2013 (150,731 units).

In the year, the industry counted 1,061,543 motorcycles leaving the assembly lines of the Industrial Pole of Manaus, which corresponds to an increase of 18.4% compared to the same period last year (896,558 units).
Motorcycle sales reached 123,641 units, behind only the 133,344 units recorded in May. However, in comparison with the month of last year, there was a growth of 13.6% (108,816 motorcycles), and the increase was 4.3% (118,545 units) compared to August. This was the best result for the month since 2011 (174,487 motorcycles).
For the president of Abraciclo, Marcos Fermanian, the numbers prove the dynamicity of the market. “We are normalizing the supply of resellers and serving the consumer waiting for a motorcycle. But, of course, there is still a queue,” he said.
According to the data, low-capacity motorcycles were the most sold, with 101,549 units corresponding to 82.1% of the market. Models from 161 to 449 cc were in second place, with 18,033 units (14.6% of licenses), followed by motorcycles over 450 cc (4,059 units and 3.3%).
Year-to-date, retail sales totaled 986,250 units, an increase of 17.3% over the same period in 2021 (840,971 motorcycles).
Projections
Abraciclo revised the projections for this year for the second time. The new perspective is that the manufacturers of the Industrial Pole of Manaus will produce 1,420,000 motorcycles, a volume 18.8% higher than the 1,195,149 units manufactured last year.
With the new forecast, the motorcycle segment should be close to the levels reached in 2014, when 1,517,662 units were produced. “We are still far from the 2.1 million motorcycles produced in 2011. But we believe that, due to the market heating up, the industry will gradually resume its production,” said the association.
For retail sales, the new estimate is that 1,350,000 motorcycles will be licensed, an increase of 16.7% compared to the 1,156,776 units registered last year. The projection is that 59,000 motorcycles will be shipped for exports, a volume 10.3% higher than the 53,476 units exported in 2021.
