Argentine natural gas company Transportadora de Gas del Sur (TGS) is making progress on plans to build a 1,200km natural gas pipeline from Vaca Muerta to Buenos Aires, according to Pipelines International. The company intends to build the pipeline in two phases (more details in the following weeks) and it is expected to have the capacity to transport up to 40m cubic meters of gas per day.

The Argentine Energy Minister believes the construction contract will be launched by the end of this month and will be awarded by as early as September this year. The project will involve an investment of approximately US$1.8bn.

DatamarNews reported Argentina’s state-owned energy company YPF is planning to use offshore Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) technology to export LNG derived from the Vaca Muerta shale play. If the plans go ahead, the South American country can finally turn the tables to become a natural gas exporter rather than a seasonal importer.
