A 55-ton crane truck fell during an operation aimed at removing the equipment from a Chinese vessel at the Port of São Francisco do Sul in Santa Catarina state. The incident occurred on the morning of Jan 17, and no one was injured.
According to the port, the operation did “use [all] adequate and necessary material and occurred within operational parameters.”
“Before the operation began, prevention and safety measures were adopted, which is why there was no risk to the physical integrity of any person, nor any type of environmental damage resulting from this accident,” claimed the Port of São Francisco do Sul in a note.
The ship that was transporting the truck is of Chinese origin; it is called Chang Chang Nan Hai and docked on Sunday (15).
“This is considered one of the largest cargoes unloaded at the Port of São Francisco do Sul, made up of more than 200 machines, forklifts, and state-of-the-art electric trucks, occupying a storage area of more than 7,000 square meters.”
The crane truck was damaged in the fall and is malfunctioning, but according to the port, the cargo insurance has already been activated by the operator responsible for the unloading.
