
China plans pilot smart port construction to facilitate cross-border trade

China is set to start construction of pilot smart ports, as part of the broader efforts to further improve business environment at ports and promote cross-border trade facilitation, according to the General Administration of Customs (GAC).
In building pilot smart ports, priorities will be given to upgrading intelligent facilities, building intensive information systems, enhancing digital operation and management, providing convenient comprehensive services, and advancing normalized cross-border cooperation.
Upon completion, the smart ports system is expected to further enhance business-friendly environment of China’s ports, better streamline cross-border trade procedures and reach higher level of modernization of port administration, so as to reinforce boost to the nation’s “dual-circulation” efforts and high-quality development of Belt and Road Initiative, according to the GAC.
