Brazilian trade balance registers USD 8.22 bn in April

The Brazilian trade balance indicates a surplus of US$ 8.22 billion in April, informed the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce, and Services this Tuesday (2).

This number shows stability compared to the same month in 2022, when the trade balance showed the same result.

According to the government, in April:

  • exports totaled US$ 27.36 billion;
  • imports totaled US$ 19.14 billion.

The daily average of exports decreased by 0.3% in April compared to the same period last year. Purchases from abroad fell by 2.6% in this comparison.

In the first four months of this year, according to official data, the trade balance had a positive balance of US$ 24.06 billion, against a surplus of US$ 20.41 billion in the same period of 2022. The increase was 18% on a daily average.

From January to April this year, exports totaled US$ 103.53 billion — a daily average increase of 1.8% compared to last year. Imports, on the other hand, totaled US$ 79.46 billion — a decrease of 2.2%.

Top importers from Brazil in April:

  • China and Macau: US$ 9.36 billion, up 5.3%
  • European Union: $3.46 billion, down 12.2%
  • United States: $2.56 billion, down 7.6%
  • Mercosur: US$ 2.22 billion (+37.3%), with US$ 1.66 billion for Argentina alone (+38.3%).
