Week 202328

In line with one of the main objectives of the Federal Government in Brazil, to boost the infrastructure sector, the Ministry of Ports and Airports has announced a new reduction in port tariffs. This time, the reduction will be at the terminal in Ilhéus, Bahia.

Discounts can reach 65% in Ilhéus. According to CODEBA (Companhia das Docas do Estado da Bahia), which manages the terminal, the waterway infrastructure fee is currently charged based on the gross size of the vessel, regardless of the amount of cargo transported. This can increase the expenses of some users.

Under the new scheme, solid mineral bulk exporters in Brazil who reach a consignment rate of less than 50% of the ship’s total capacity will benefit from a reduction in port tariffs.

Port of Santos

The Port of Santos will also see a tariff reduction, with discounts of up to 65%. The fee will be calculated according to the type of navigation and the frequency with which the vessel uses the terminal. The idea is to encourage users to return to the port.

In addition, the Port of Santos will offer lower tariffs to “green vessels,” which have a positive score on the Environmental Ships Index.

Port of Rio Grande

The Port of Rio Grande in Rio Grande do Sul will also see a reduction in tariffs. In this case, the exemption is aimed at Inland Navigation, which deals with operational or land infrastructure services within the port. The first movement of goods coming from Inland Navigation stored to be shipped later will now be exempt from tariffs.

In addition, there will also be a tariff reduction for cabotage transport.
