Suape Port Vehicle Hub Achieves Remarkable 42% Growth in 2023

The year began with excellent news for the Vehicle Hub at the Suape Industrial Port Complex, located in the Metropolitan Region of Recife. From January to December 2023, there was a 42% growth in the movement of automobiles compared to the previous year. In total, 80,647 vehicles passed through the port, including export, import, and transshipment operations, making the hub the busiest in North/Northeast Brazil.

“The sector is in full expansion, cementing Suape’s strategic position in the country and the international market. We are investing in port dredging, innovation, and technology to increasingly expedite internal cargo operations and vessel arrivals and departures. We have the highest hopes possible. With this, we will further diversify the types of goods that arrive or leave Suape,” says the CEO of the port authority, Marcio Guiot.

Marcio Guiot remarks on the importance of the port dredging works unlocked by the state government. This intervention, both in the external and internal channels, will allow the docking of vessels up to 366 meters in length at their maximum capacity, generating an exponential increase in cargo throughput. This includes roll-on/roll-off ships, which transport vehicles, and container ships.

According to Suape, the last stage of dredging in the external channel is expected to end in April this year. This action will elevate the port internationally, as it will deepen the track by 20 meters, sufficient to receive Suezmax-type oil tankers, making the port even more attractive to the international market.

As for the internal channel project, the bidding process began in late December, and the first stage—which includes the bidding—must be finished within eight months. Its depth at the end of the intervention will be 16.2 meters.
