Suape Port posts 38% jump in bagged sugar shipments

Bagged sugar shipments are becoming a more and more common sight at the Port of Suape. In the first three weeks of 2024, the port has already witnessed noteworthy sugar operations, one of Pernambuco’s primary export products. To provide context, Suape handled 211,349.15 tonnes of sugar throughout 2023, marking a 38% increase compared to the previous year’s 153,219.47 tonnes.

This Monday (22), the vessel Neptune J, flying the flag of Palau, an Oceania island nation, completed nine days of being loaded with sugar, some 23.2 thousand tonnes thus far. The ship arrived from Tripoli, Lebanon, and is set to return to its departure point on Wednesday (24). The sugar is produced in mills in southern Zona da Mata, located just a few kilometers from the dock, which facilitates distribution to various parts of the country as well as the world.

“Suape is situated a few kilometers from the main sugar mills in the ‘Zona da Mata’ region of Pernambuco, a distinguishing factor for logistics operations. Additionally, the structure of our docks optimizes cargo transportation, adding increased competitiveness to the sugar industry in the state,” emphasized the Director of Development and Port Management, Nilson Monteiro.
