In terms of revenue, sales reached $205.7 million, up 11.3% compared to February 2023’s total of $184.9 million, as reported by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA).
During the first two months of 2024, the export volume saw a notable rise of 17.6%, climbing from 167.9 thousand tonnes between January and February 2023 to 197.5 thousand tonnes this year. China retained its position as the largest importer of Brazilian pork in the two-month period, with 49.5 thousand tonnes shipped (-32% compared to the previous year). Legging behind China were the Philippines, importing 25.7 thousand tonnes (+208.1%), Chile with 19.1 thousand tonnes (+41.3%), Hong Kong with 18.5 thousand tonnes (+23.5%), and Singapore with 11.4 thousand tonnes (+39%).
“The landscape for Brazil’s international pork sales is shifting. The dominance of exports to the Chinese market is diminishing due to increased demand from other destinations. Thanks to this, we’ve witnessed the best February in history, nearing the milestone of 100 thousand tonnes for the first time, which may foreshadow the sector’s trajectory throughout this year,” analyzed ABPA President Ricardo Santin in a statement.
The state of Santa Catarina emerged as the top pork exporter in the first two months, shipping 109.6 thousand tonnes, an 18.2% increase from the same period in 2023. Other relevant states to this trade are Rio Grande do Sul with 42.2 thousand tonnes (+6.1%), Paraná with 23 thousand tonnes (+6.8%), Mato Grosso with 5 thousand tonnes (+49.2%), and Mato Grosso do Sul with 4.9 thousand tonnes (+37.6%).
