Paddy rice prices fall domestically in Brazil; imports remain on the surge
Mar, 13, 2024 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202411
Prices of paddy rice are falling in the Brazilian market. According to researchers at Cepea, while there is some resistance from sellers, buyers continue to face difficulties in sales to wholesale and retail markets, putting pressure on prices for new deals.
The progress of the harvest also influences the price drop. Regarding external transactions, Brazilian imports of paddy rice remained above national shipments in February, a behavior similar to that observed in the same period last year.
Imports amounted to 136.61 thousand tonnes, a volume 31% lower than the previous month but 35.4% higher than in Feb/23. Meanwhile, exports totaled 98.55 thousand tonnes, with respective increases of 17.83% and 8.74%. Purchases exceeded sales by 38 thousand tonnes, resulting in the fourth monthly deficit in the past six months.
