Brazil’s March Sugar Exports Reach 2.281 Million Tons in 16 Days

Brazil has exported over 2.281 million tonnes of sugar and molasses up to this point of March (16 business days), with a cumulative revenue of $1.253 billion, according to data from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex) on Monday (25). Last week alone, over 700,000 tonnes were shipped.

Throughout last month, Brazil exported 3.017 million tonnes of products related to the sugar-energy sector. In the full month of March 2023 (23 business days), exports of these products totaled 1.827 million tons with a total revenue of $834.074 million, according to Secex.

The following chart shows the volume of sugar shipments (hs 1701) recorded in Paranagua, one of Brazil’s top sugar export ports, every month from January 2022 to January 2024. The data is from DataLiner.

In terms of daily averages, exports of sugar and molasses totaled 142.62 thousand tonnes per day during the same period, almost 80% higher than those recorded in 2023 (79.460 thousand tons per day). Shipping prices are over 20% higher, at $549.30 per ton.
