Brazil’s Orange Juice Exports Decline in 2023/24 MY Amid Supply Constraints

Brazilian exports of orange juice have declined in the 2023/24 market year, a trend anticipated by sector agents due to limited domestic supply, according to researchers from the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) at Esalq/USP.

Data from Comex Stat reveals that from July 2023 to April 2024, Brazil exported 869.9 thousand tonnes of orange juice (in concentrate equivalent), marking an 8.5% decrease compared to the same period in 2022/23.

Despite the drop in supply, the value of the commodity has surged. The 2023/24 harvest saw a 22% increase in revenue, reaching a total of $2.25 billion.

Cepea researchers attribute the decline in exports to the confirmed low production of oranges in São Paulo and Minas Gerais. They anticipate that juice shipments will remain restricted throughout the next harvest (2024/25), starting in July.
