According to data recently released by Civil Defense, over 90% of the cities in Rio Grande do Sul have been affected by the recent floods. Authorities estimate that the climatic event has impacted the lives of 2.3 million residents across 478 municipalities. To support the region and strengthen relief efforts, Log-In Logística Integrada has been transporting donations of water, food, hygiene products, and clothing by sea and road, all voluntarily and free of charge.

This initiative began on May 6, and to date, around 600 tonnes of donations have been delivered to Brazil’s southernmost state residents. Marcus Voloch, Vice President of Navigation at Log-In Logística Integrada, explained that the company’s decision was driven by the situation in the region and a desire to enhance the support chain provided by public and private institutions. “As a company made by Brazilians and for Brazilians, we are very committed to the development of the country and care for our people. We started this service in partnership with one of our clients, initially to send water to the Civil Defense base in Porto Alegre. From there, we made ourselves available to transport other donations, and new demands emerged from various ports across the country, which we tried to meet at all costs,” he states.

Luiz Facco, the company’s Backoffice Manager, is leading the initiative from an operational standpoint. He highlighted that Log-In will continue to transport donations for an indefinite period. “We are committed to balancing our daily operations with donation operations. Additionally, we are lending equipment and containers to our suppliers to further enhance deliveries,” he commented.

Delivery Logistics

Facco recalls that the transport of donations begins on road routes in the state of São Paulo. “We coordinated with the Social Fund of Santos to transfer donations via Tecmar trucks to the Social Fund of the State of São Paulo, for subsequent distribution to Rio Grande do Sul. As the demand increased from customers and government institutions, we bridged the distance for numerous deliveries by both sea and road to their final destinations. The flexibility of using Tecmar’s truck network was crucial for providing agility to the operation,” he highlighted.

The operations also involve providing containers to some government institutions, such as the Navy and Air Force, as well as private airlines and port authorities, which have organized donation collection campaigns. Log-In provides coastal shipping services to southern ports, delivering the donations to local Distribution Centers.

Facco also notes that regulatory easing has allowed greater agility in the delivery process. According to him, the modifications on regulatory flexibility, document issuing, and inspection that have been implemented by the Federal Revenue Service and the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) stand out among the others.
