In August, the Port Authority of Santos (APS) completed a major dredging project to deepen the berths between Warehouses 12A and 20/21, significantly improving the port’s efficiency. The project involved the removal of approximately 100,000 cubic meters of sediment and 500 cubic meters of jet-grouting residue, achieving a depth of 14.60 meters and promoting the docking of larger vessels.

APS President Anderson Pomini stated, “The ongoing and finished projects at the Port of Santos reflect our continuous effort to modernize and expand port infrastructure, ensuring greater competitiveness and efficiency. These improvements will boost operating capacity and strengthen the port as the country’s leading logistics hub.”

In 2018, APS completed the recovery and reinforcement of the quay between Warehouses 12A and 23, known as the Outeirinhos quay, extending 1.7 kilometers in the navigation channel of the Port of Santos, preparing the area for dredging. In 2023, studies began to hire a specialized company for the dredging services, and in December of that year, a contract was signed with Náutica Marítima Serviços Ltda., the winning bidder, which began dredging in March 2024 after mobilizing the necessary equipment.

The project was successfully completed thanks to the alignment between APS, the contracted company, and the terminals in the Outeirinhos region, which worked together to establish a service schedule that included temporary closures of the berths. This joint effort was crucial in overcoming the project’s challenges and ensuring the successful completion of the dredging, with a total investment exceeding R$ 13 million.

With the work now completed, the Port Authority of Santos will conduct a new hydrographic survey and an underwater inspection of the dredged areas. The results will be submitted to the Port Captaincy of São Paulo for approval of the new operational draft, paving the way for an even more competitive and efficient Port of Santos.
