Brazil’s Ministers of Ports and Airports and the Chief of the Presidency’s Communication Secretariat have announced that the contract for the construction of the Meridional Port of Arroio do Sal will be signed in October. The project, valued at R$1.3 billion, is expected to generate over 2,000 direct and 5,000 indirect jobs.

“Today is a very important day for Rio Grande do Sul, especially for the Serra Gaúcha region. After several years, we are finalizing the procedures to allow a strategic logistical change for the state of Rio Grande do Sul: our private use terminal, our maritime terminal in Arroio do Sal, which will change the reality of the state’s economy,” said Minister Paulo Pimenta.

The announcement was made at a meeting with businessmen from Rio Grande do Sul. Also present were the National Secretary of Ports, Alex Ávila, and federal deputies Denise Pessôa and Pepe Vargas.

With a substantial investment, the project aims to create a modern and efficient port infrastructure capable of meeting the growing demands of international trade. In addition to facilitating the transportation of goods, the port also has the potential to boost the economic and social development of the region.

“The good news is that by October 20th, we will be announcing an investment of over R$1.3 billion in the state, which will generate more than 2,000 direct jobs and almost 5,000 indirect jobs. This will completely change the economic matrix of the state of Rio Grande do Sul,” declared the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho.

One of the main advantages highlighted by the project is job creation. These jobs cover a variety of sectors, from specialized construction labor to administrative and support functions.
