Brazilian agribusiness exports totaled USD 164.4 billion in 2024, marking the second-highest result in the historical series and accounting for 49% of the country’s total exports. This performance highlights the sector’s resilience, even amidst challenges such as declining international prices for key commodities.

While soybean and cereal sales experienced a downturn due to a smaller harvest and lower global prices, other sectors offset these impacts with significant growth. Meat exports increased by 11.4%, the sugar and ethanol complex grew by 13.3%, forest products advanced by 21.2%, and coffee exports surged by 52.6%. Less traditional products, such as lemons and limes, pet food, ginger, and chocolate, also gained ground in international markets, further diversifying Brazil’s export portfolio.

China maintained its position as the top destination for Brazilian exports, with USD 49.7 billion, followed by the European Union (USD 23.2 billion) and the United States (USD 12.1 billion). Emerging markets such as Africa (+24.4%) and the Middle East (+20.4%) also recorded significant growth, driven by trade promotion efforts and strengthened diplomatic relations.

The Federal Government ramped up efforts to diversify exported products and destinations, expanding Brazil’s presence in new markets. In 2024, several items reached record export levels, including sugar, coffee, cotton, beef, poultry, orange juice, and pulp. According to Secretary of Trade and International Relations Luís Rua, agribusiness reaffirmed its leadership by accounting for half of the country’s total exports and expanding its international reach through a diversification-focused strategy.

Projections for 2025 are even more optimistic. Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Carlos Fávaro emphasized that the outlook is favorable for new records in harvests and production. This potential is bolstered by continuous market expansion and increased trade promotion initiatives in partnership with Apex Brazil and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The strengthening of production and export growth generates foreign exchange revenues and drives job creation in rural areas, solidifying agribusiness as a strategic pillar of the national economy and global food security. Brazil is poised to further solidify its role as a leading international food, fiber, and energy supplier, with records expected in volume and value in the coming year.
