APM Terminals Callao is projecting a rebound in the import and export of fruit and reefer cargo in 2025, even as recent seasons have seen a general market slowdown and relatively stable activity in this segment within Peru.

The operator of the North Terminal at Peru’s busiest port credits its positive outlook to the country’s trade agreements, including the Free Trade Agreement with Hong Kong and phytosanitary protocols established with China, which are expected to stimulate reefer cargo volumes.

“Our share of the fruit and refrigerated goods market has held steady at 45% to 48% over the past few years, despite broader market declines. We’ve invested in a Reefer Rack system to position ourselves for a market recovery in 2025,” said Fernando Fauche, Commercial Director at APM Terminals Callao.

“We’re fully equipped to handle any increase in fruit or refrigerated cargo volumes in the near future,” he added.

The Reefer Rack system at APM Terminals Callao has expanded its refrigerated storage capacity by more than 34%, increasing from 1,100 to 1,550 reefer plugs.

With this upgrade, the North Multipurpose Terminal is well-positioned to handle larger volumes of refrigerated cargo while ensuring optimal conditions prior to shipment. The terminal also offers advanced solutions for maintaining the quality of fruits and vegetables, including temperature-controlled docks, rapid-freezing facilities, and other specialized services.
