Peruvian Agroexports Expected to See Moderate Growth in 2025

Although Peruvian agro exports, both traditional and non-traditional, are projected to reach a historical record of USD 12 billion in 2024, the director of the Peruvian Exporters Association (Adex), Liz Soto Luna, noted that growth this year would be much more moderate due to external and internal factors. She emphasized the need for Congress and the Executive Branch to promote a new Agrarian Promotion Law.
“We hope this new law addresses the realities and needs of the sector regarding taxation and labor, focusing on developing small agricultural producers and the companies that integrate them into a modern, export-oriented agricultural chain. Additionally, it should maintain key measures instrumental for agro-export growth, such as the drawback program,” she stated.
Soto pointed out that one external concern for the sector relates to trade relations with the United States, the leading destination for Peruvian agro exports, as changes in U.S. administration policies could alter trade terms.
However, the recent opening of the Port of Chancay, the new direct route to China and Asia, ongoing trade negotiations led by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), and the sanitary access protocols managed by Senasa present new opportunities.
“Mincetur’s work is critical as it has ongoing negotiations with Indonesia and India – with possible future agreements with the United Arab Emirates and Morocco – agreements that will provide better market access for our products. Additionally, Senasa maintains consistent communication with Adex and the business sector. We are all aligned in prioritizing potential markets,” she said.
On the domestic front, she highlighted the need for a favorable business climate, stronger efforts to combat insecurity, and improvements to the logistics chain, which has faced significant issues in recent months, such as long truck lines and congestion at port terminals.
“We expect the creation of the Technical Committee for the Operational Efficiency of Foreign Trade Logistics, convened by Mincetur, and the working meetings with the National Port Authority to result in actions that improve operations, reduce logistics costs, and increase competitiveness in the sector,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Coordinator of Agribusiness and Fishery Products at PromPerú, Juan Portugal Quinteros, announced that his organization will host 115 activities in 2025, involving 2,446 companies, with an expected business volume of USD 1.419 billion. “We have allocated a budget of PEN 10.7 million,” he noted.
