According to the president of the Brazilian Wheat Industry Association (Abitrigo), Rubens Barbosa, wheat mills in Brazil are turning to suppliers beyond Argentina in order to avoid shortages of grain amid the coronavirus pandemic. According to the report, Brazil, which depends on imports for 60% of domestic wheat consumption, is pressing the government to relax health restrictions on imports of Russian wheat and temporarily eliminate the 10% tariff applied to imports of wheat from outside Mercosur.
