The gross value of agricultural production (VBP) in 2021 is estimated at BRL 1.113 trillion. This is practically a definitive value, as prices are stable and this year’s harvest is practically finished except for some winter crops.
The 2021 VBP has been driven mainly by crops, which grew 12.3%, and by livestock, which grew 5.4%. Among the crops, the highlights are soy, corn, sugar cane, and coffee. In livestock, the best result is seen in beef and chicken.
The products with the greatest contribution to the VBP this year include soy (R$ 361.4 billion), corn (R$ 124.8 billion), sugar cane (R$ 85.4 billion), coffee (R$ 40.1 billion), and cotton (R$ 26.9 billion). These five products represent 57.3% of the 2021 VBP.
The products with a negative contribution to the VBP are peanuts (-9.4%), bananas (-11.6%), English potatoes (-12.4%), beans (-14.6%), and oranges (-17 .7%). In livestock, pigs and eggs had a negative contribution due to lower prices than in 2020.
VBP for 2022
With weather forecasts for 2022 indicating rain at the right time with good crop development, the estimated value for the VBP in 2022 is R$ 1.164 trillion. This value is 4.5% greater than expected in 2021.
Soy has an estimated turnover of BRL 356.6 billion and corn is estimated at BRL 148.5 billion in 2022. These products lead next year’s VBP.
