The Brazilian peanut sector recorded revenues of US$70.8 million between January and April 2021 in fresh peanut exports, an increase of more than 12% over the same period in 2020, according to ComexStat data.
When analyzing the last 10 years, the export of peanuts in the form of grains, oils, peanut products, pies, and peanut residues grew more than 433% in export value. The trade balance was also positive and registered a surplus, reaching US$ 438 million last year.
The data are part of the study “Peanut Agribusiness: Production, Transformation, and Opportunities” carried out by DEAGRO (the agribusiness department) of FIESP (the federation of industries of the state of São Paulo), with support from ABICAB (the Brazilian chocolate, peanut, and candy industry association). The research outlines the main results of the various links in the production chain to contribute to the development of the sector in the Brazilian economy.

The study also revealed that the industry almost doubled the number of countries it exports to within a decade, rising from 56 in 2010 to 100 countries in 2020. Currently, concerning grain exports, Brazil ($230m) comes in 5th place, behind India ($627m), the United States ($475m), Argentina ($433m), and China ($264m). The export of peanuts in grain has been a viable alternative to increase crop productivity, competitiveness, and income.
