In the first 9 months of 2021, the electrical and electronic sector trade balance accumulated a negative balance of US$ 25.1 billion, 29.1% above the registered in the same period of 2020 (US$ 19.4 billion). This result was due to the 27.2% increase in exports and the 28.8% increase in imports.
From January to September 2021, imports of electrical and electronic products totaled US$ 29.28 billion, 28.8% above those recorded in the same period of 2020 (US$ 22.73 billion). In the first nine months of 2021, exports of electrical and electronic products reached US$ 4.19 billion, an increase of 27.2% compared to the same period of 2020 (US$ 3.30 billion). As a result, the sector’s trade balance has an accumulated deficit of US$ 25.1 billion this year.
Most of the deficit was due to business with Asian countries (US$ 21 billion); the trade balance with China alone reaching US$ 14 billion and the trade balance with other Asian countries reached US$ 7 billion.
In the first nine months of 2021, exports of electrical and electronic products reached US$ 4.19 billion, an increase of 27.2% compared to the same period of 2020 (US$ 3.30 billion). Despite the improvement, the result accumulated in the first nine months of this year is 2% below that verified in the accumulated result for January-September 2019 (US$ 4.29 billion), the period prior to the pandemic.
Imports
From January to September 2021, imports of electrical and electronic products totaled US$ 29.28 billion, 28.8% above those recorded in the same period of 2020 (US$ 22.73 billion).
YTD imports in the first nine months of this year were also higher than in the period prior to the pandemic, with an increase of 22% compared to the same period in 2019 (US$ 23.96 billion).
