ABPA: turkey meat exports enjoy 17.8% upswing in 2023

Brazilian turkey meat exports came to a close in 2023 with a notable increase of 17.8%, according to data by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). A total of 69.8 thousand tonnes of the product were exported last year, compared to 59.2 thousand tonnes in 2022.
The sales generated throughout the year resulted in revenue of US$ 201 million, marking a 6.2% increase from the previous year’s total of US$ 189.3 million.
In December, turkey meat sales for the international market reached 4.2 thousand tonnes, a volume 20.4% higher than that shipped in the same comparative period in 2022, with 3.5 thousand tonnes. The revenue from these sales totaled US$ 8.4 million, representing a 5.1% decrease compared to the total in December 2022, which stood at US$ 8.9 million.
As the largest importer of Brazilian-produced turkey meat, Mexico imported 16 thousand tonnes in 2023, a 4% decrease compared to the previous year. In positive trends, South Africa imported 12.9 thousand tonnes (+38%), and the European Union imported 10.8 thousand tonnes (+239%).
