Abu Dhabi’s BRF to resume exporting chicken meat to Saudi Arabia

The food company BRF regained the certification required to export chicken meat to Saudi Arabia from its Kizad, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates unit.
After an audit process, exports from the meat processing plant have been temporarily suspended since 2019. Now, given the strategic relevance of that market, BRF pushed for approval.
Breaded chicken, beef and chicken hamburgers, sausages, tender breast, and specific cuts of chicken are produced in Abu Dhabi and mostly shipped to Gulf, North African, and Arab League nations.
The Kizad unit, inaugurated in 2014, has a production capacity of 80,000 tonnes per year and currently produces food under the Sadia, Perdix, and Hilal brands for 14 countries.
“The plant employs almost 600 people, one of the most modern at BRF. It constantly goes through auditing processes to attest the added value in local production, according to the rules of the Gulf Cooperation Council,” said the company in a note.
The decision to revert the suspension was taken just over a month after BRF opened its first factory on Saudi soil in the town of Damman after investments worth USD 18 million raised the units’ monthly output to 1,200 tonnes of food.
The Dammam plant features production lines geared toward producing tenderized breasts, breaded and special cuts, and other products to serve the domestic market.
On occasion, the global CEO of BRF, Lorival Luz, said that the company maintains a long-term commitment to the region and Halal market, whose production process follows Islamic precepts.
Data from the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) show that chicken meat exports to Middle Eastern countries, especially Saudi Arabia, have played a prominent role in this sector’s shipments, offsetting the decline in purchases from China – the largest importer of beef from Brazil.
See below the track record of Brazilian shipments of chicken meat to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, in terms of volume, from January 2021 to May 2022. The data is from DataLiner.
