Port of Açu, located in northern Rio de Janeiro, recently completed its first coffee export operation using big bags. Logistics operator C. Steinweg Group shipped 15,520 tonnes of Arabica and Conilon coffee, mostly sourced from producers in southern and eastern Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, and Bahia, to Hamburg, Germany.
“Açu is well-positioned to offer customized, efficient solutions to support the strong growth of Brazil’s agribusiness and industrial sectors. With world-class infrastructure, we are equipped to facilitate the transport of various cargoes from across the state, helping reduce costs and boost the competitiveness of Brazilian products,” said João Braz, Commercial and Terminals Director at Port of Açu.
In 2023, Açu’s Multi-Cargo Terminal (T-MULT) handled 2.1 million tonnes, a 33% increase compared to the same period in 2022. As a fully private port, Açu operates 24/7 with no waiting times for berthing, offering tailored services and flexible contracts.
By the end of 2024, the operational quay at T-MULT will extend to 500 meters, with a draft of 13.1 meters, and a second berth will be added, enabling the simultaneous operation of two vessels. The terminal’s annual capacity will increase to 2.7 million tonnes, and with further expansion of the storage area, this capacity could double in the coming years, reaching five million tonnes.
