The agricultural commodities company ADM announced this Tuesday, February 22, that it carried out the largest shipment of soybeans in the history of the Ponta da Montanha Grain Terminal (TGPM), installed in Barcarena (PA), with 84,802 tons on a single ship.
The delivery also represents the largest volume ever shipped in a grains vessel in the Amazon Basin, according to Reuters.
“This has proven that shipping soybeans through TGPM using our vessel is an option that we will repeat more often,” said the South America Logistics director for ADM, Victor Vinuesa.
The bulk carrier MV Harvest Frost, owned by ADM, is 237 meters long and 40 meters wide.
The ship set sail last week bound for the port of Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, where the company also has a terminal.
The company said that all the soybeans will be destined for crushing by ADM itself to generate several products, such as bran for animal feed, cooking oil, biodiesel, among others.
Until then, according to the company, the previous volume record seen in the Brazilian North region belonged to the port of Santarém, with 82,531 tonnes of soybeans, carried out in 2020.
