In January 2021, China surpassed Vietnam as the leading source of Brazilian footwear imports, shipping more than 1.32 million pairs of shoes to Brazil, a 19.6% increase over the same month the previous year. China had not ranked first among import origins since 2010 when Brazil implemented an antidumping surcharge on Chinese footwear imports.
The total imports for the month were 2.58 million pairs, more than half of the total. China is still in second place in terms of value, owing to the low average price of US$ 3.63 per pair. The total amount paid for Chinese imports was US$ 4.8 million, up 46.3% from January of last year.
Imports from Vietnam continue to lead the way in terms of revenue. In January, 452,700 pairs were imported from there for a total of $9.47 million, a decrease of 24.2 % in volume and 23.5 % in revenue over the same month in 2021.
In January, Indonesia ranked third among the countries that exported the most footwear to Brazil. Two hundred forty-two thousand pairs were imported from there in the first month of 2022, for a total of US$ 4.8 million, up 123.5% in volume and 61.3% in dollars over the same month in 2021.
In total, footwear imports totaled 2.58 million pairs, for which US$ 24 million were paid, up 30% in volume and 10.2% in revenue compared to the first month of 2021.
