Agribusiness accounts for nearly all of the revenue generated by exports at Paraná’s ports. Out of the almost US$19.83 billion earned through shipments in 2021, 90%, or nearly US$17.93 billion, came from agricultural products.
Soy-derived products and chicken meat accounted for more than half of the total exports. In comparison to the US$15.78 billion generated by agricultural exports in 2020, accumulated revenue in 2021 increased by 13.6 percent.
“We are a port that mainly serves the agribusiness industry of the entire country”, comments the CEO of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia. According to the manager of the Paranaguá and Antonina ports, just over 60% of the revenue generated in exports came from Paraná-grown products. “The other states that sent the most products to be shipped through Paraná terminals were Mato Grosso do Sul, São Paulo, and Mato Grosso,” Garcia continues.
Products
Data from the Ministry of Economy (Comex/Stat MDIC) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Agrostat) also show that the whole range of soy products, which includes soybeans, soy bran, and oil, together generated a revenue of almost US$8.86 billion at the ports of Paraná.
The various meat cuts shipped through the Port of Paranaguá generated approximately US$4.27 billion, nearly US$3.1 billion of which was chicken. Sugar and ethanol (US$1.75 billion), as well as forest products (US$1.63 billion), were also significant contributors to export revenues at the ports of Paranaguá and Antonina.
Surplus
Agribusiness imports totaled US$1.3 billion at the ports of Paraná in 2021. Among the products that were imported the most were cereals and oilseed products, excluding soybeans.
Agricultural imports last year increased by 34% compared to 2020.
