Agricultural tax auditors extend protest in Brazil

The National Union of Federal Agricultural Auditors (Anffa Sindical) has extended its protest mobilization until this Thursday (29) when it is scheduled to participate in a round of meetings with the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (MDI) to discuss a new salary proposal. Auditors and agricultural technicians, who have been working under a slowdown regime since January 22, are directly involved in issuing certificates and clearing cargo for exportation. At the Port of Santos, 26 agricultural auditors and 11 technicians are on duty.
The Anffa Sindical explained that “the MDI offered auditors a remuneration that amounts to approximately 50% of what auditors employed by the Federal Revenue Service make,” which was not accepted. MDI has set a time to address salary issues specifically. Therefore, other topics related to the career, especially those concerning work quality, will be discussed in future meetings only.
Anffa Sindical also confirmed that the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, indicated he will also participate in the meeting.
The union clarified that its workers are not currently on a strike or a work stoppage. “During this period (since January until now), auditors have stopped working unpaid overtime hours but continue to respect the deadlines set by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock for the release of certificates and goods, such as cargoes for exportation in Brazilian ports. Moreover, the analysis and release of perishable and live cargoes have been prioritized by agricultural auditors.”
The union reiterates that it sees “no future in radicalizing the movement, which does not aim to harm the agricultural sector or food supply. Workers only see to enhance the value of agricultural defense activities through this protest. While tax collection relies on over 30,000 auditors in the country, food auditing relies on 2,300 auditors, with 20% of this total eligible for retirement.”
The union did not inform whether there were delays in the release of certificates or goods at the Port of Santos as of the closing of this edition.
