Chicken exports to the Arab countries continue to rise.
According to ABPA – Brazilian Association of Animal Protein – in the first five months of this year, Brazil exported almost 800,000 tons of halal chicken to Arab and Muslim countries. Even with the Saudi Arabia embargo, according to ABPA, Brazil grew 57% in May in shipments to the country compared to the same period in 2020.
In the accumulated result for the year, that is, between January and May, 786,976 tons of halal chicken were exported. The main importers were Saudi Arabia (206,926 t); UAE (117,138 t); Yemen (48,885 t), Libya (39,127 t) and Kuwait (36,086 t). The total amount of halal chicken exported by Brazil accounts for an average of 40% of Brazilian chicken meat exports (fresh and processed). In May this year alone, 165,480 tons of halal chicken were exported, 47,136 tons to Saudi Arabia – which last year bought around 30,000 tons during the same period – 25,880 tons to the UAE, and 9,889 tons to Yemen, which has been moving up in the rankings of Halal chicken purchases.
