Porto do Açu is the first company to receive authorization from the Federal Government to implement a railroad in the state of Rio de Janerio. The project will have an extension of 41 kilometers and cost approximately R$610 million.
The privately-owned stretch, the twenty-second under the Pro Trilhos program, is located at the municipality of São João da Barra and will serve mainly the annual transportation of 16 million tons headed to the port.
The Federal Government, represented by the Ministry of Infrastructure, and the Porto de Açu administration signed the contract in a solemn ceremony with the presence of the president of the republic, Jair Bolsonaro; the infrastructure minister, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas; the Mines and Energy minister, Bento Albuquerque; and the governor Cláudio Castro.
“The first kilometers of the railroad connecting the port and its terminals to the industrial complex will be significant.” It won’t be long before we’re able to connect Anchieta to the Port of Açu, and we will undoubtedly find a solution to the EF-118 rail connection problem,” highlighted Minister Tarcísio at the launch of the UTE-GNA 2 foundation stone, in São João da Barra (RJ).
Authorizations
The 22 projects approved thus far under the Pro Trilhos program are expected to total R$ 102.85 billion in investments and create 6,880.69 kilometers of new track extensions. The authorized proposals, developed by 13 companies, cross 14 different states, with origin and destination in each.
In addition to Rio de Janeiro, the authorized railways pass through São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Pará, Santa Catarina, Maranhão, Bahia, Pernambuco, Piauí, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás and the Federal District.
